Following confirmation from the group that 2010’s The Final Frontier would not be their last album,[166] Bruce Dickinson revealed plans for a sixteenth studio record in July 2013, with a potential release date in 2015.[185] In February 2015, drummer Nicko McBrain revealed that a new album had been completed, although the release has been put on hold while Dickinson recovers from treatment for a cancerous tumour found on his tongue.[186] On 15 May, after Dickinson had been given the all-clear, manager Rod Smallwood confirmed that the album would be released in 2015, although the band will not tour until 2016 to allow Dickinson to recuperate.[187] On 18 June 2015, the band’s website announced its title, The Book of Souls, and confirmed a release date of 4 September 2015.[188] A critical and commercial success, it received positive reviews and became the band’s fifth UK No. 1 album.[189]

The new record was recorded at Guillaume Tell Studios, Paris, which they had previously used for 2000’s Brave New World, with regular producer Kevin Shirley in late summer 2014.[190] With a total time of 92 minutes, it is the group’s first double studio album.[190] In addition, the release’s closing song, “Empire of the Clouds“, penned by Dickinson, surpassed “Rime of the Ancient Mariner” (from 1984’s Powerslave) as Iron Maiden’s longest song, at 18 minutes in length.[188] A music video for the song “Speed of Light” was issued on 14 August.[191]

In February 2016, the band embarked on The Book of Souls World Tour, which saw them play concerts in 35 countries in North and South America, Asia, Australasia, Africa and Europe, including their first ever performances in China, El Salvador and Lithuania.[192] As with 2008-09’s Somewhere Back in Time World Tour and 2010-11’s The Final Frontier World Tour, the group travelled in a customised aeroplane, flown by Dickinson and nicknamed “Ed Force One”, although this time they used a Boeing 747-400 jumbo jet.[193] The band completed the tour in 2017 with further European and North American shows.[194] On 20 September 2017, The Book of Souls: Live Chapter was announced. Recorded throughout The Book of Souls World Tour, it was released on 17 November 2017.[195]

In the summer of 2016, the group launched a mobile game, Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast.[196] Inspired by the game’s title, the band will undertake the Legacy of the Beast World Tour from 2018 to 2019, commencing with European shows in 2018.[197]

Christine and the Queens

17 May 2018 (Toronto, ON) Christine and the Queens makes her eagerly anticipated comeback with her new single, “Girlfriend”, available to stream and download now via Because Music/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. Debuted as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record In The World on BBC Radio 1, “Girlfriend” is Christine and the Queens’ first new song since her already iconic debut record Chaleur Humaine was released to near-universal acclaim in France in 2014 and the UK in 2016, and having sold more than 1.3 million copies to date. Listen to “Girlfriend” HERE.

If Chaleur Humaine was an introduction to Christine and the Queens AKA Héloïse Letissier, then “Girlfriend” is a bold declaration of the next chapter in her story. She’s stepping away from her debut album towards a tougher, more minimalist, and more upbeat sound, which finds its most direct expression on “Girlfriend”. The track, written and produced by Letissier, pays tribute to her long-time love of the G-funk sound and in order to get it exactly right, she tracked down one of its pioneers, Dâm-Funk, and asked him to sing and play on it.

Not only does the sound have a newfound muscle, so too does the tone, which marks a naked shift of energy from the “teenage years” mood that fueled much of her debut, towards a more provocative and exhilarating expression of confidence, sex, anger, lust, and, crucially, macho swagger. Throughout, “Girlfriend” questions identity and plays with the performance of gender and how the codes of ‘masculinity’ are disrupted if the player isn’t a man.

“I initially set out to smash against macho culture and macho men,” says Letissier. “I became obsessed with this idea of the macho man, and still being a woman. What does it mean if I’m this figure, and I’m a woman? Does it make me an aberration? Is it joyful?”

The song, too, is overwhelmed with desire. “I felt I had to address female desire and its diversity,” she says. “How sometimes it’s blacked out or ignored. It’s still something quite suspicious or slightly dirty. I felt like it was important to be more unapologetic about that. There are hints of nights spent having sex and coming back covered in sweat. Like a male figure, the young hero who has love stories, and comes back in the morning and his friends are like: ‘What happened to you?’ I want to be that,” says Letissier.

Christine and the Queens will perform at Radio 1’s Biggest Weekend in Swansea, UK, on Sunday, May 27. She has announced a full tour of Europe and North America including two Canadian dates. See christineandthequeens.com for ticket information.

Cannibal Corpse is an American death metal band from Buffalo, New York. Formed in 1988, the band has released thirteen studio albums, two box sets, four video albums and one live album. The band has had little radio or television exposure throughout its career, although a cult following began to build after the release of the 1991 album Butchered at Birth, and 1992 album Tomb of the Mutilated. Both albums achieved worldwide sales of one million copies by 2003,[1] including 558,929 in the United States, making them the all-time top-selling death metal band in the country.[2]

Behemoth is a Polish blackened death metal band from Gdańsk, formed in 1991. They are considered to have played an important role in establishing the Polish extreme metal underground.[1][2]

Until the late 1990s, the band played a traditional black metal style with heathen lyrical content, but soon changed to that of occultand thelemic themes written by their lead vocalist Nergal and Krzysztof Azarewicz. With the 1999 release of Satanica, the band demonstrated their presence in the death metal scene, while retaining their own signature style characterized by the drum work ofInferno, multi-layered vocals and Middle-Eastern influences. Despite Behemoth having been labeled as death metal or thrash metal-influenced, Nergal has mentioned that he does not like the band to be labeled.[3][4]

“There’s just something about holding it in your hands… some intangible feeling of value, of possession, that is just not there digitally.
